Equipping SLPs with Knowledge and Resources to Mitigate Disproportionality in Special Education

Veronica, the owner of Bilingual Speech Therapy World, Inc., recognizes the significance of equipping Speech-Language Pathologists with research-driven knowledge, practical tools, and relevant resources to skillfully serve Culturally & Linguistically Diverse (CLD) children in order to mitigate disproportionality in special education.

Whether that is through a comprehensive range of Professional Development Presentations or in-depth Consultations or a combination of both, SLPs are provided with the opportunity to learn and apply non-standardized and dynamic assessment and therapy approaches and practices.

Why it Matters

“Disproportionality studies are vital tools for anyone concerned with monitoring equity and integrity in the special education process.”

Taking Initiative of Your Journey as a Culturally-Linguisitically Responsive SLP

Veronica recognizes that tackling disproportionality in special education is a considerable task and that it, ultimately, is a collaborative effort required among various special education professionals. In addition, many SLPs have reported not received specific training in how to perform non-biased bilingual assessments and are not confident about the process (Caesar, L. G., & Kohler, P. D., 2007).

However, culturally and linguistically responsive and intentional SLPs can take initiative of their own learning, unlearning, and growth by pursuing relevant continuous education and consultation services that can help mitigate disproportionality in special education one student at a time.
