Part 1: How to Get Started with Dynamic Assessments: A Practical Approach

In this first part of the Dynamic Assessment (DA) Series, you will not only get an in-depth intro to DA, but you will also learn practical ways on how to start implementing DA in your next assessment (with a DA task write-up blurb!).

We will also be discussing how you can use this information for not only yourself, but feel empowered with knowledge & research to explain DA to others (e.g., SPED directors, other SLPs, School Psychologists, Learning Support teachers, parents/caregivers, etc.).

Agenda

  • Difference between Static vs. Dynamic Assessments

  • Why is DA Useful?

  • What does DA look like?

  • Implementing a Fast Mapping DA Task-Preschool/Young Elementary Child Example (w/ an example write-up blurb!)

Objectives

At the end of the webinar you will be able to:

  • Describe differences between static and DA

  • Explain why DA is useful

  • Discuss what DA can look like

  • Discuss what IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) says about Standardized Assessments

  • Learn how to implement a Fast-Mapping DA task

What You’ll Receive

  • Certificate of Completion for an opportunity to earn 1.0 Professional Development Hours (PDH). [Formerly known as Clinical Maintenance Hours (CMH)]**

This course fulfills 1 hour of ASHA’s professional development requirement on ASHA Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) 2 hour requirement.

  • You’ll get access to a Google Drive Folder with the following Resources:

    • PDF handout of Powerpoint Slides (larger version) & a PDF handout of Powerpoint Slides (notes version) with space to write notes

    • Dynamic Assessment Resource Handout #1 with links/resources discussed and new resources not discussed during PD.

  • You’ll also get a link to the recording and 30-day access to the recording.

  • You will also get access to an adapted, "print & go" English/Spanish version of the Critical Questions from leadersproject.org.

All the questions are the same from the original version. However, I wanted to create something I could use while talking to parents in real-time and be able to file in IEP folders for reference. This version is meant to “print & go” and has added descriptions of questions.

**Bilingual Speech Therapy World, Inc. meets all requirements for PDH hours. You can still use these hours to maintain your Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC), but they just won’t be submitted to the CEU registry. Visit ASHA's website to see their statement on acceptance of CMH hours.
